My most impactful Honors Activity was taking HON 140: Intergroup Dialogue on Race and Gender my first semester because it exposed me to the diversity that UIC is known for while teaching me fundamental qualities needed in a diverse society such as empathy, sympathy, and understanding. This course allowed me to reflect on what it means to be a Latino first-generation student in the Honors College and comprehend the systemic issues in our society while becoming an agent of change. Taking this course and being a first-time college student allowed me to appreciate the diversity that makes UIC unique.
